A Guide to Cell Salts
Cell salts (also called Tissue Salts or Biochemic Salts) were developed by Dr. Schuessler in the 1800’s. As a medical doctor as well as a biochemist and physicist, he was fascinated by the role of minerals in the body’s maintenance of health. He understood that minerals were essential to the body’s ability to build healthy new cells, transport nutrients, repair damaged cells, and to cleanse the cells of waste materials. He developed the twelve tissue salts in nontoxic homeopathic potencies to provide the body with access to key minerals and to help the body correct imbalances (excesses or deficiencies).
Cell salts can now play a more crucial role than ever before due to the widespread deficiencies observed in our food, by the environmental challenges we face, and the high pace of life that is so prevalent today.
The following is a brief description of the actions of the twelve cell salts and the most common symptoms they can treat.
|Cell Salt||Main Action||Organ Affinity||Symptoms Treated|
|#1 Calc Fluor
(Calcarea Fluorica 6X)
Source: Calcium Fluoride
|ELASTICITY||Blood vessel walls, muscular tissue, connective tissue, bones, teeth.||Gives the quality of elasticity/tone in conditions related to a hardened or relaxed condition such as sluggish circulation, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, stretch marks, wrinkles, cracks in the skin, muscular weakness, weak ankles, repeated strains, stiff joint pains, back pain, loose teeth, brittle or soft nails.
The symptoms are generally worse in humid conditions and are relieved by massage, gentle motion and warmth.
| #2 Calc Phos
(Calcarea Phosphoricum 6X)
Source: Calcium Phosphate
|NUTRITIVE/ RESTORATIVE||Blood, bone and teeth (especially important for children), digestion.||Aids development in children and teenagers (puberty), particularly in the formation of bone (minor growing pains) and teeth, and teething pain. Effects of physical stress and excess study (headaches). Digestion. Minor iron deficiencies, heavy menstruation. Recovery and convalescence. Diarrhea. Feel discontented, desire change.|
|#3 Calc Sulph
(Calcarea Sulphuricum 6X)
Source: Calcium Sulphate
|BLOOD PURIFIER/HEALER||Liver, blood, skin (purifies blood, removes waste products from the blood). Cleanses tissues of accumulated waste matter in the tissues.||Skin conditions that tend to form yellowish discharge such as adolescent pimples or acne; abscesses, wounds that are not healing well. Cold and allergy symptoms with yellow mucus runny or blocked nasal passages, eye discharge and sore throats (taken in the early stages, can cut short a cold or cough).
Crave fresh air and are worse in warm stuffy rooms.
#4 Ferrum Phos
(Ferrum Phosphoricum 6X)
Source: Iron Phosphate
|FIRST AID/OXYGEN CARRIER||Blood, blood vessels (Ferrum Phos is contained in the hemoglobin of red blood cells allows for it to be a carrier of oxygen).||
Early stages of colds and congestive conditions: low fever, sore throat and nasal congestion. Frequent colds. Eases pain, headache, muscular strains and sprains. Encourages healing of wounds and balanced iron levels. Redness and irritations in the skin. Pale face flushes easily.
Complementary remedy for most conditions due to its promotion of oxygen rich blood.
#5 Kali Mur
(Kali Muriaticum 6X)
Source: Potassium Chloride
|CLEARER OF WHITE DISCHARGES/MUCUS||Skin, mucous membranes, digestion (production of saliva and HCl in stomach).||Second stage of respiratory disorders with white mucus: cough, colds, sore throats, sinus congestion and eye discharge. Slowed digestive conditions marked by white-coated tongue: heartburn, acidity, gas, diarrhea, sick headache. Other areas with white discharge: thrush, pimples, acne and other skin eruptions. Treatment of burns.|
|#6 Kali Phos
(Kali Phosphoricum 6X)
Source: Potassium Phosphate
|NERVE NUTRIENT||Nerve tissues, skin.||Stress/nervous headaches, back pain that extends downward, hypersensitivity of senses. Restless sleep, sadness, lowered vitality following stress or illness, restless fatigue, impatience, irritability. Nervous school children, bedwetting. Irritating skin conditions.
The symptoms are usually worse from mental and physical exertion and from cold.
|#7 Kali Sulph
(Kali Sulphuricum 6X)
Source: Potassium Sulphate
|OXYGEN-CARRIER / LUBRICANT||Assists in the exchange of oxygen from the blood stream to the tissues and cells. Blood, lungs, mucous membranes, skin, hair.||Respiratory conditions such as nasal congestion with a desire for cool air, croupy cough, sinus and ear congestion with yellowish sticky mucus. Yellowish discharges from the skin and mucous membranes. Yellowish coating on the tongue especially with diarrhea and intestinal disorders. Yellowish eruptions of the skin and scalp (dandruff).
The symptoms are generally worse in the evening, or in a closed stuffy room, and are better for fresh air.
|#8 Mag Phos
(Magnesia Phosphorica 6X)
Source: Magnesium Phosphate
|ANTI-SPASMODIC||Muscles and nerves.||
Relieves cramps and cramping pain (leg cramps, menstrual cramps, muscle tension, abdominal cramps). Radiating, shooting, darting or spasmodic pains including back pain that extends downward, stabbing headaches, muscle twitching, hiccups. Spasmodic coughing, hiccups, menstrual pains, stomach cramps and flatulence.
These symptoms are worse with touching and cold, and relieved by heat, by pressure and by bending double (e.g., colic).
|#9 Nat Mur
(Natrum Muriaticum 6X)
Source: Sodium Chloride
|WATER DISTRIBUTOR||Body fluids, mucous membranes, digestion.||Symptoms related to excessive dryness or moisture. Dry skin, dandruff, minor cold sores and crack in lower lip. Constipation and difficult stools, heartburn with slow digestion, great thirst. Colds and hay fever with watery or thickening clear discharge: sneezing, dry sore throat, sinus congestion, post nasal drip. Headache, unrefreshing sleep, craving for salty food. Low spirits, effects of suppressed grief, haunting unpleasant memories.|
|#10 Nat Phos
(Natrum Phosphoricum 6X)
Source: Sodium Phosphate
|ACID NEUTRALIZER||Tissues, joints, digestion. A deficiency of sodium allows uric acid crystals to deposit around joints and tissues.||Symptoms and conditions related to acidity: gastric acids, lactic acid, uric acid, etc. Digestive disorders: gas, heartburn, dyspepsia, sour indigestion, diarrhea, sick headache. Acidity in joints, especially after exertion or fright: stiffness, swelling in joints and low back pain. Sleeplessness from indigestion. Fatigue and indifference.|
|#11 Nat Sulph
(Natrum Sulphuricum 6X)
Source: Sodium Sulphate
|LIVER CLEANSER||Liver, digestion, respiratory organs.||Digestive symptoms: nausea, sick headache, sour vomiting, heartburn, colic, bitter eructations, yellow diarrhea, frequent urination. Cold and congestion with yellow mucus, rattling cough and humid wheezing. Principal treatment of the flu. Ailments arising from humid conditions past or present. Emotional changes, sadness and low energy especially following injury.
Craves and feels better for fresh warm, dry air.
Source: Silicon Dioxide
|CLEANSER/ELIMINATOR||Skin, mucous membranes, digestion, nails, hair.
Promotes suppuration and elimination of accumulated waste matter.
|Purgative action. Skin with splinters, acne, minor styes, eruptions, athlete’s foot, offensive perspiration; pale skin. Promotion of healthy skin, nails, hair. Congestions with sore throat, coughs, sinus and ear congestion. Constipation and diarrhea. Nervous irritability, timidity, lack of vital heat.
